Pete — Fort Myers, Florida

Obituary

Peter Carlton Wade, 86, of Fort Myers, Florida, passed away peacefully, April 21st 2026, after a life well and fully lived. Born in Sturgis, Michigan, Pete made his home over the years in Grosse Pointe and Okemos before settling in Fort Myers, where he spent his final chapter in the Florida sunshine.

Pete built his life with his hands. A mechanic by trade, he took pride in his craft and earned the respect of those around him, eventually rising to serve as a supervisor for Meridian Township. He was the kind of man who showed up, worked hard, and never needed to say so.

He was quick-witted, warm, and genuinely funny — the sort of person who could make a room laugh without trying. He loved working in his yard, cheering on his beloved Michigan State Spartans, and above all, spending time with his grandchildren and great-grandchildren. He was a proud United States Army veteran, having served his country from 1959 to 1961.

Pete was married to the love of his life, Anne Voss Wade, who preceded him in death ten years ago. After her passing, he moved to Fort Myers, where he and his brother Frank became affectionately known as the famous "Wade Brothers" of Jamaica Bay. In his later years, he was blessed with the loving companionship of Nancy Melillo.

He is survived by his son, Peter Wade Jr. (Tammy); his daughter, Susan (Jim); three grandchildren, Matthew, Sarah, and Stephanie; eight great-granddaughters; his partner Nancy Melillo; his brother Frank; and a wide circle of family and friends who will miss his laugh and his warmth every day. He was preceded in death by his wife, Anne Voss Wade, and his beloved sister, Linda Vidosh-Stover, who passed in 2008.

In lieu of flowers, the family kindly asks that memorial contributions be made to Hope Hospice, Fort Myers, Florida.
